Q3: I have had a Misto sprayer for several years and have used olive oil in it. It no longer sprays a mist, just a stream of oil. It still seems to hold pressure. Any suggestions? Thanks Al Frechette
A: Here is the infromation I received from Misto International when I called to inquire regarding your email: No Spray/Sputtering/Dribbling Due to a loose seal. To correct, go through the following steps: (Do this over a towel or the sink). 1. Unscrew your MISTOᆴ (as if you were filling it with olive oil) 2. Hold the spray mechanism in your hand and pop the white screw collar off. (It pops off easily with a little pressure from your thumb). 3. Place the spray mechanism in the MISTOᆴ canister and place the screw collar over the spray nozzle. Tighten the screw collar into place (you should feel and hear the collar click into place). 4. Tighten it a little bit more. 5. Replace the top cap. 6. Pump the MISTOᆴ again. If the spray is still not a fine mist, loosen the screw collar and then tighten. Pump again. Spray. If the problem is still not corrected, replace the spray mechanism. No Pressure Due to loose seal, missing washer, or broken pump tube. 1. Check to see if the pump tube is broken. There is supposed to be a slit in the plastic just under where the tube flares. This is the valve slot. If the slit is larger than normal or has actually broken off replace the pump tube. 2. Check to see if the washer is intact by removing the spray mechanism and turning it upside down so that the thin tube is pointing up. The washer is located in the base of the screw collar. If it is not there, replace the washer. 3. If the pump tube and the washer are intact, tighten the seal using the steps in the previous section. Streaming Due to using too much oil, solidified oil in the sprayer, loose seal. 1. Make sure that you measure 1/3 cup of oil (too much oil will make it stream) 2. Make sure that it is not being stored in the refrigerator (this will cause the oil the solidify) Refer to the cleaning steps below. 3. When was the last time you used your MISTOᆴ and/or how long have you had it. If it has been a while most likely oil has solidified in the sprayer and needs to be cleaned out. Refer to the cleaning steps below. 4. If the MISTOᆴ is relatively new, a loose seal could be causing the problem. Refer to the steps in the first section. Cleaning We always recommend washing you MISTOᆴ using directions included in the instructions booklet to keep the internal assembly clean and working properly. Usually MISTOᆴ will need to be cleaned approximately every 6 to 8 weeks to keep it working smoothly. 1. Fill the MISTOᆴ 1/2 full with hot tap water 2. Add one drop liquid detergent and shake to mix. 3. Pump 10-15 times 4. Spray for ten seconds 5. Allow the soapy water to remain in the sprayer for several hours or even overnight. This will allow it to break down any oil that has solidified in the sprayer. 6. Rinse, repeat the sequence above with fresh hot water. Replace the spray mechanism if these steps have not stopped the streaming problem. Please call our customer service department for more care kits or further assistance. 1-888-645-7772
